Jefferson voters validated the appointment of Darren Jackson to fill the vacant council seat in Tuesday’s special election.
Jackson received 303 votes, 53.44 percent of the total votes cast. Amelia Carman received 144 votes (25.4 percent), Michael A. Mentzer received 60 votes (10.58 percent), and Mark Wright received 55 votes (9.7 percent).
There were five write-in votes.
A total of 567 persons cast ballots. That’s 18.3 percent of registered voters.
Jackson, a Greene County High School history teacher, will serve the remainder of the term originally held by Larry Teeples. The term expires Dec. 31, 2021.
